Sterling silver
With time, any sterling silver jewellery piece that is exposed to air will tarnish. Additionally, contact with materials like cosmetics, hairspray, perfume, deodorant, body lotion, bleach etc. can speed up the tarnishing process.
To take care of your sterling silver jewellery, polish it frequently with a soft dry cloth to avoid tarnish. Ideally, use a specially impregnated silver polishing cloth to ensure that your jewellery continues to retain its original shine.
We recommend taking off your jewellery during showering, swimming, cleaning and exercise.
Keep your jewellery stored in a sealed pouch or box and in a cool, dry place.
Gold plated jewellery
The same advice as above applies.
Further to this, do not clean your plated jewellery with anything abrasive as it will remove the layer of gold.
Lastly, if your plating has worn off your jewellery, which can happen eventually, you can always have it re-plated. If you would like advice on doing so, please email studio@freya-douglas-ferguson.com
